  1. I can use the internet to research topics as long as I am not infringing on any copyrights! Also the free websites and pictures that are available for use will benefit the children with their technology project.
I can ensure responsible use of the internet as long as I am citing the works I use and using a small portion to ensure the fair use guidelines. I can also make sure that their is a disclaimer on any websites allowing for free use by any person.

  2. I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning? By researching topics and activites they can do to better understand the topic.
I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet? After tonight I am more aware of copyright laws and how to narrow down searches for student. Also how to avoid "Bad" websites for my students.

  3. ghavilland 1781: I always verbally say where I get my work, but I need to role model more with my students on how to cite my work, just not verbally say it, since I am now more aware of the copyright laws.

  4. How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning? I can use the Internet as an example of research for students to gain knowledge and to see various ways of reporting information (many sites, videos, pictures, etc).
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet? I can guide students through kid friendly websites (whole group) and model how to use research for information appropriate for kindergarten. I can also demonstrate how to cite works to show ideas of others =)

  6. How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning? I can use the Internet to support my student's learning by providing safe websites that have a lot of pictures avaiable. I can teach the students how to effectively search for information instead of opening a site and "sifting" through thousands of sites.
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet? I can teach my students appropriate use in "kinder" friendly language and discuss why it is important.

  7. @Holly thanks for reminding me about demonstrating how to use the cite works with the students. I agree it is important for students to know that ideas belong to other and those people need to be given credit for it.

  8. Holly,

I like the idea of using the websites to also search information. I use the computer for a lot of things and sometimes teaching at a kinder level I forget that they can learn by example hoe the computer can be a tool for research with the teacher as a facilitator, PBL!

  9. ghavilland1781-I like the way you used our new technology vocabulary. I agree with you that pictures do increase the understanding of our students in the classroom. The Internet is full of free web images!! WOW! So, what I understand you saying is, you will share your pictures with the rest of your team....how collaborative!
julia-I would like to work with you on presenting the fair use policies in "kid" friendly language.

  10. @Julia - I liked that you wrote "helping kindergarteners be more independent" because at this grade level we want to create more independence. They are impressionable and can grasp technology concepts. Exposing them to technology and the internet will help them in future grade levels.

  11. @Holly@Julia-I agree with you. Kindergarteners do need to be independent and they do not always get that opportunity at home. I also agree that students will absorb the technology lingo and concepts if approached appropriately and strategically. The kindergarten students will be more ready for the next year in school if they are regularly exposed to technology in the classroom.

  14. I can use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning by using different search engines to have students find facts on different topics. Students are also able to find interactive games that are related to the weekly skills.
I can ensure appropriate use and responsibility on the Internet by monitoring the students' use and by creating homepages that open initially to let students work on teacher safe and approved sites. Students will also be taught to create appropriate works cited pages.

  16. How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning?
Students have a natural attraction to the internet anyway...why not use it in an instructional manner to allow them to use it in meaningful ways to express learning?
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet?
Constant monitoring is best, however, I use InterClass to monitor students and communicate my expectations to them directly...they can respond to me as well.

  17. I can use the internet to teach my students how to use different websites and to research.
I can ensure responsibility by teaching my students how to search for information and useful websites.

  18. To Holly--I agree that showing students web sites that are appropriate is the best way to allow students access to the most useful sites. I know with me, especially the older students, they have other ideas as to what is "useful"!! So they are more of a challenge when pointing them to appropriate web sites.

  19. Holly, I agree about making kindergatners more independent learners. That seems to be a weak spot with our older students too. Maybe we will find out that they don't even have a problem with it if we give them a chance.

  20. How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning? The internet is a great resource to find pertinent information on artist, art, and art images. It will allow students to take virtual tours of museums and see art that they may not otherwise have the chance to see.
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet? I will share the test we took in class with my students, monitor students while working online, and show them how to use appropriate websites

  21. I can use the Internet to teach and support my students' learning by giving them the opportunity to do their own research by using kid friendly search engines. They become responsible for their own learning and outcomes.

I can ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet by using kid friendly search engines. I can also preview a list of sites and have the students use those sites only. In the search engines, I am also able to restrict and narrow the searches the students are able to do.

  22. How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning?

It will enhance their learning. Students will be able to think about how to solve or research a problem. Today our world is about using information and expanding. Students will be able to research information and apply it to their daily lives. As a teacher, it will enhance my instruction.

How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet?

I will instruct and discuss to the students about the importance of being responsible when they are researching and using the internet. A possible solution is limiting the research that the students look at.

  24. Tiffany, I like the student friendly search engines. I think that will help to maintain security issues that could arise. Also, using a list that you have developed for the students will help them stay on track for the work you are trying to accomplish.

  25. How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students' learning? I can research activities and sites that will be engaging for my students and use as an aid to my teaching. For example, I found a site: www.totally3rdgrade.com that has great games, songs and activities to go with my lessons.

How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet? Well, tonight I learned way more about copyright rules then I ever knew existed! LOL! I think for my little guys, I would feel more comfortable letting them use the kid-friendly search engines then letting them loose of Google. If they searched google, I learned tonight how to narrow a search using the search options.

  28. To Karen,
The idea that students who may never be able to go to a concert, art museum or art exhibit via a virtual tour is amazing. These students can now explore another world and open their minds to new avenues.

I'm glad that after tonight you were more aware of copyright laws and how to narrow down searches for student and how to avoid inappropriate websites for your students. That was new info to me as well!!

  30. Since starting this class, I have been looking for ways to implement more technology into the classroom. Students need variety of ways to interact with the lessons, and giving them the opportunity to utilize technology provides them an open door for numerous things. Though with this open door comes more chances for them to get into places that they were not intended to go, so showing them how to properly navigate the net is essential in their success. Making sure that the monitors are visible at all times, and making the consequences for misuse consistent would prevent students from continuing any negative behaviors.

  31. To Lillian, One of the main components of being a teacher is teaching the students responsibilty for their actions and I agree that they need to know how to use the Internet properly. With great opportunity for learning comes great risk for the students to find something inappropriate. As teachers, it's our job to steer them in the right diretion.
